Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Pricing depends on square footage, grass variety, and whether drainage prep is needed. Most residential installs run between $1.50 and $2.50 per square foot installed. We provide itemized quotes. No mystery numbers.

Most residential jobs are done in a single day. Larger properties or jobs requiring significant drainage work may take two days.

St. Augustine (most popular for shade and clay), Bermuda (best for full sun), Zoysia (premium durability), and Centipede (low-maintenance option). We recommend based on your specific yard conditions.

Yes. Old turf removal and disposal is included. We never lay new sod over dead grass. That is how most failed installs happen.

Always. We assess your yard on-site before recommending a grass type or giving a price.

After Installation

Wait at least two weeks before regular foot traffic. New roots need time to establish.

Most lawns look fully established in 3 to 4 weeks with proper watering. Louisiana's warm soil speeds up rooting compared to northern climates.

Twice daily for the first two weeks (morning and late afternoon), then taper to once daily, then every 2 to 3 days as roots establish.

We stand behind our work. If sod fails due to installation error on our part, we make it right. We also diagnose honestly. If a section dies due to drainage or watering issues, we tell you exactly why.

Louisiana Specifics

Two reasons: wrong grass variety for NOLA's subtropical climate and clay soil, and no drainage preparation before installation. Most failures we see come from contractors who skip the assessment step.

For most properties with moderate shade and clay soil, yes. Bermuda is better for full-sun lawns. We assess your specific conditions before making a recommendation.

Spring and fall are ideal. March through May and September through November. Sod can be installed year-round in Louisiana, but summer heat requires extra watering attention during establishment.

Yes. We serve the full greater New Orleans metro including St. Tammany Parish. Same crew, same standards.

Reviews

Don't Take Our Word for It

Real results from New Orleans homeowners and property managers.

I'd tried two other companies before Big Easy Sod. Both times the grass died within a month. These guys came out, explained exactly why that happened, and installed the right sod for my yard. It's been six months and it still looks incredible.
Marcus T. Uptown, New Orleans
They were done by 2pm. One day, full lawn replacement. I was expecting a two-day job at minimum. Professional, clean, and the crew actually explained everything they were doing. Will not use anyone else.
Denise R. Lakeview, New Orleans
We manage 14 units and needed the common lawn areas done fast before our HOA walkthrough. Big Easy Sod finished three days before schedule and under budget. That never happens. Highly recommend for commercial work.
